What is Sildenafil?

Sildenafil (brand: Viagra) is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor used for erectile dysfunction. A lower-dose form (20 mg) is also used for pulmonary arterial hypertension under the brand Revatio. Dispensed by Serv-U Pharmacy only with a valid prescription.

Uses
  • Erectile dysfunction (ED)
  • Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — Revatio dosing; not interchangeable with ED dosing

Only your clinician can determine if sildenafil is appropriate for you.

How it’s taken (follow your prescription)

Typical ED starting dose: 50 mg taken as needed ~1 hour before sexual activity; adjust 25–100 mg based on response/tolerability; do not exceed once daily.

Form Strengths (examples)
Tablets 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg (ED); 20 mg (PAH/Revatio)

Food (especially high-fat) can delay effect. If you miss a planned dose for PAH, follow your prescriber’s instructions. Pharmacist counseling is available at checkout.

Chat with Pharmacist

From the pharmacist’s bench: the sweet spot for sildenafil is 45–60 minutes before intimacy on a near-empty stomach; a heavy, high-fat meal often blunts or delays the effect. Most people start at 50 mg; if you’re on an α-blocker or run low blood pressure, we’ll consider 25 mg. Don’t judge it by a single try give it 3–4 attempts under similar conditions. Alcohol noticeably reduces response. Common effects are nasal stuffiness, flushing, and mild dizziness; a full glass of water, a cooler room, and if needed a small dose adjustment usually help. For headaches, we often fix it by lowering the dose or switching molecules (e.g., tadalafil or vardenafil). Never combine with nitrates or riociguat; if you develop chest pain, call 911. If the effect seems weak or too short, message us—we’ll fine-tune timing, dose, or consider an alternative that fits your routine.
