Do not use if
- You are taking or recently took an MAOI (within 14 days) or are receiving linezolid or IV methylene blue.
- You take pimozide (contraindicated).
- You have known hypersensitivity to sertraline.
Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, dizziness, drowsiness or insomnia, sweating, tremor, sexual side effects. Seek urgent care for severe mood changes, suicidal thoughts (especially in young people), serotonin syndrome, or allergic reaction.
Treatment notes

What is Sertraline?

How it’s taken (follow your prescription)
Take once daily, with or without food, at the same time each day. For oral solution, use the supplied dropper and dilute as labeled. If you miss a dose, take it when remembered unless it’s close to the next dose—do not double up.

Warnings & interactions
- MAOIs/Linezolid/Methylene blue: Contraindicated—risk of serotonin syndrome.
- Serotonin syndrome: Risk increases with other serotonergic drugs (triptans, tramadol, St. John’s wort, other SSRIs/SNRIs, lithium).
- Bleeding risk: Higher with NSAIDs, aspirin, anticoagulants—report unusual bruising/bleeding.
- Hyponatremia/SIADH: Watch for headache, confusion, weakness; risk higher in older adults.
- Activation of mania/hypomania: Use caution with bipolar disorder history.
