What is Lasix?
Lasix (furosemide) is a loop diuretic, often called a “water pill.” It helps your body get rid of extra salt and water through urine. Used to treat edema (fluid retention) and high blood pressure. Dispensed by Serv u Pharmacy only with a valid prescription.
Uses
- Edema (fluid retention) caused by heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disease.
- High blood pressure (hypertension), often in combination with other medications.
- Acute pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs).
Only your clinician can determine if Lasix is appropriate for you.
How it’s taken (follow your prescription)
Take exactly as prescribed, usually once or twice daily. Take in the morning to avoid nighttime trips to the bathroom. If you miss a dose, take it when remembered unless it’s almost time for the next. Do not double up.
| Form | Strengths (examples) |

Lasix is one of the most powerful diuretics we use. It’s essential for patients with heart failure or serious swelling, helping them breathe easier and reduce strain on their heart. The key thing patients need to know is that it makes you urinate a lot – often within an hour! So plan accordingly. We always remind patients to stay hydrated (unless told otherwise) and to watch for signs of dehydration or electrolyte imbalance like dizziness, muscle cramps, or weakness. It’s crucial to follow your doctor’s instructions precisely, including getting regular blood tests to monitor your levels.
